“I joined the company in June 2007 from the telecoms sector and it’s been extremely interesting learning about a brand new industry. I sit on the UK Leadership team and, as HR Leader, my remit is twofold: to drive forward D&B’s Winning Culture within the UK market, and to increase people performance.

I had the opportunity to work here on an interim basis first so, unusually, I had the chance to ‘try before you buy’. A key reason for me joining was the fact there’s a great deal of emphasis here on developing the talents of everyone within the business. There’s also a strong focus on promotion from within, so once you join - especially in a more junior role - there’s all kinds of opportunities to move upwards, and also sideways into different areas of the business.

HR within D&B does significantly more than carry out the traditional support function that you normally associate with HR departments. An important part of our role is to work in partnership with different areas of the business in order to develop the talent of our leaders. As a result, HR plays an active part in helping to drive the commercial goals of the company. And that’s a challenge I really relish.”


Kay Galvin

“The main focus of my role is to support leaders in the global groups in managing and developing people within their functions. The spectrum of work is very broad and ranges from recruitment, through onboarding and induction, to talent development and succession planning.

HR Business Partners are usually the specialists in the tools and processes that support these areas but we work as part of the functional leadership teams, supporting managers in implementation and follow through. As part of the UK-based HR team, I also get involved with compensation and benefits work, as well as a range of other projects.

I’ve been with D&B since 1989. I left in 1996 to live in Sweden for a couple of years and then rejoined in 1998. There are a number of reasons why I’ve chosen to make my career here. The main one is that I’m always presented with new challenges. I’ve had several different roles within the HR department over the years and each one has provided me with opportunities to grow professionally.

I greatly value the flexibility that D&B offers me. Since having my children I’ve always worked part time, so have been able to combine my job with the demands of my family. I also enjoy the challenge of being part of a large, global organisation, but working for a medium-sized operation here in Marlow. For me, it’s the best of all worlds.”
